STAD AMSTERDAM The spark which ignited the interest and energy for the project which became the Sail-training: The first serious project involving sail-training aboard the STAD AMSTERDAM began with over 100 aspiring future officers of the Royal Naval Institute (KIM). One of the 1st voyages for youngsters took place in September/October 2001 when 54 future crewmembers sailed on the STAD from Den Helder through the English Channel to Vigo in Spain. A second group of 57 cadets, sailed from Barcelona to Palma de Mallorca and Nice. For all the hands-on sailing experience complemented the academic experiences of the Naval Institute, and the future officers gained a unique and instructive period on board the STAD.
