Thaddeus J. Koza,

Renown Tall Ships Author, Photo-Journalist, And Lecturer

A native Rhode Islander, Thad has photographed the "Tall Ships" for over two decades. Educated in the mid-west with degrees from the University of Michigan (BA, English Honors, 1963) and Northwestern University (MA, 1965). For 20 years he has been a member of the American Sail Training Association (ASTA). His articles and essays have been published in CRUISING WORLD, SEA HISTORY, CLASSIC BOAT, and TALL SHIPS INTERNATIONAL. He has covered many major events including:

He has sailed on the POGORIA, ZAWISZA CZARNY, DAR MLODZIEZY, LIBERTAD, CHRISTIAN RADICH, ALEXANDRIA, BILL OF RIGHTS, CONCORDIA and MIR. His photograph of the BOA ESPERANCA is used on the Irish Postal Service 45p stamp and four of his photos were used on three Sail Amsterdam 2000 Commereative stamps

    Tall Ships: an International Guide published by TIDEMARK Press of Hartford CT (ISBN.1-55949-315-5). He recently completed the manuscript for a second book:

      Tall Ships: The Fleet of the 21st Century
    published in June 2000.

    Thad lectures on the QEII and the CRYSTAL SYMPHONY cruise liners on a regular basis. He served as a consultant for ABC-TV Eyewitness News in New York, and served as a commentator for WCVB, Channel 5, Boston during the Sail Boston 2000 event.. He produces a yearly tall ship calendar published by TIDEMARK Press, and lectures extensively throughout the US. He lives by Narragansett Bay in Newport RI. His favorite subject is his 15 year old son Alexandre.
